Soffieria Villa

Materra-Matang is an architecture, furniture and research workshop founded in Montreuil in 2022 by Ophélie Dozat and Lucien Dumas, with the collaboration of Lou-Poko Savadogo. Ophélie Dozat is an architect who graduated from the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Versailles (ENSAV) in 2018, and earned a Master’s in visual culture from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

Lucien Dumas, an architect-cabinetmaker, graduated from ENSAV in 2018 and simultaneously trained in cabinetmaking at the École Boulle in Paris. Lou-Poko Savadogo, an architect-cabinetmaker, graduated from ENSAV in Versailles and later trained in carpentry at the Lycée Léonard de Vinci and in tapestry at the École Boulle in Paris. Their approach is multidisciplinary, focusing on design across all scales: from furniture to rooms, from buildings to landscape fragments. In their practice, where design, production, and experimentation are not treated as separate entities, a single detail, story or material (such as earth, wood, stone, natural fibres etc.) can be turned into the springboard of a more comprehensive project. Each evolves around an analysis of the location with the aim of connecting architecture to the territory, promoting the use of local materials and transforming them with handcrafted techniques.

Stefano Villa owns a traditional glassblowing atelier in Trezzo sull’Adda, near Milan. Since 1978, the furnace has produced blown glass items, as well as collaborating with famous architects and designers, lending their technical and artistic expertise to them. It is a one-off union that has resulted in unique creations of fine craftsmanship and refined design: from decorative and furnishing accessories to tableware which can be customised in every detail using various decoration techniques, such as gilding, sandblasting, colouring and kiln decal. The atelier also undertakes repair and restoration work on antique objects.
