Double Signature. A dialogue between design and artisanal excellence

Clémentine Chambon
Bonacina 1889

Clémentine Chambon carries out a multidisciplinary practice in the worlds of design and the fine arts. From the design of furniture with high-end manufacturers to the production of short series of hand-painted objects, she moves between craft and industry, devoting herself at the same time to sculpture, and brings into question the scenery of the home, and its modes of production, with humour and a light touch. Graduating from the École Boulle and ENSCI – Les Ateliers, she received further training in Marc Newson’s studio and then went on to co-found the Percept design studio before setting up one of her own in 2019. She collaborates with international producers of design and major industrial groups. Her approach leads to the creation of durable, often colourful, expressive and joyful, sometimes cheeky products that bear her mark.

Bonacina 1889, an emblem of Italian excellence ever since its founding in 1889, is a family-run independent design brand that over the years has defined a unique and timeless style, rooted in a feeling for creativity and art, in attention to detail and in the skilled working of Rattan, a natural raw material from a plant that grows in South-East Asia. Today, under the guidance of Elia Bonacina, a member of the fourth generation of the family, the company continues to grow, investing in new projects and collaborations and introducing innovations in products and materials while preserving the authenticity and heritage of the brand. Among the fundamental steps in the last few years has been the move from the original works into a new establishment of 6,000 square meters at Lurago d’Erba (Como) that will house the new and talented artisans who are entering the company more and more often, and the very recent opening of the company museum.
