Pierre Gonalons
Craman-Lagarde
Pierre Gonalons is a French designer and creative director. Born in Lyon with an Italian cultural background, he has developed a vision of design which merges the decorative arts and popular culture with minimalist lines. His work deliberately sets out to strike a balance between being simple and spectacular at the same time, and favours the expressiveness of the material and how it is used, whether modern or traditional. Having earned his diploma from the Camondo school, in a short space of time Pierre Gonalons made his mark with his unique vision of design and space. He founded his studio in Paris at the age of 23, and has since designed for prestigious names including Lalique, Chloé, Nina Ricci, Moissonnier, Renault, as well as making his own self-produced limited-edition collections for international galleries. In the purest tradition of the great holistic interior architects, driven by his own experience, he oversees every single detail of his decorations. Furniture, furnishing accessories, lamps, fabrics, cars, mirrors, covers and sets are all inspired by a highly refined, fantastical approach, by a passion for the materials, by his taste for colour and his love of exquisitely refined craftsmanship. Ranked among the best 100 designers by AD since 2019, he took part in the AD Interiors exhibition in the same year. His work features in major exhibitions and publications, as well as in many international magazines.
Situated in the French town of Revel, Maison Craman-Lagarde has been nurturing an outstanding tradition in cabinetmaking for five generations now. Its talented craftsmen specialise in producing highly complex replicas of furnishings, ranging from historical nineteenth-century pieces to Art Déco and contemporary masterpieces. Didier Combes began working for the company in 1990 as the head of the cabinetmaking team. In 2017, he was placed in charge of the ateliers. What he loves most is working in harmony with wood and sublimated materials, crafting pieces of the very highest quality and complexity. Craman-Lagarde is one of the last time-honoured companies that can master such a degree of excellence, and is particularly well-known for its delicate marquetry. Cabinetmaking, marquetry, wood engraving, lacquer and varnish, bronze and craftsmanship involving precious and exotic materials are all part and parcel of its exceptional expertise. The company belongs to the Manifatture Emblem group.
