Double Signature. A dialogue between design and artisanal excellence

Studiopepe
Antica Stamperia Carpegna

Series of three pillows in pure linen, decorated with a special rust-based colour applied through the technique of woodblock printing. The traditional motifs have been re-interpreted both in terms of colours and of patterns. The pear-wood blocks are hand-carved; the motifs are printed on the fabric with long, delicate operations of colouring, drying and ironing, always performed entirely by hand.

Studiopepe
Studiopepe is a Milan-based design studio specialising in creative consultancy established in 2006 by Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara Di Pinto. The studio’s outstanding feature is an eclectic, multi-disciplinary vision combining attention to research with respect for the past and an appreciation for the value of manual expertise. They consider creative identity as a balance between contrasts, with colour representing a structural value, rather than merely an aesthetic one. They consequently make use of different kinds of materials, both refined and unfinished, glossy and opaque, with rich textures and essential volumes. In 2015 Studiopepe Design was born, a new branch dedicated to public and private interior and product design.
Antica Stamperia Carpegna
Antica Stamperia Carpegna, a historic workshop named after the Marche’s village it is based in, has specialised, for the past six generations, in handmade prints on canvas. Thanks to a traditional technique, with the aid of carved pear- or walnut-tree matrices, still stacked in great number within the workshop, the fabrics are stamped with a rust colour print. This kind of colouring, also called “traditional Romagna printing”, is realised with a mixture made with wine vinegar, wheat flour and rusted iron. The print impressed on the fabric is dried in the sun and fixed with ranno (lye), an ancient washing material made of steam-hot water and ash. In this genuine artisanal product the print is visible on both sides of the canvas.
