“I have always wanted to work with the tufting technique, so I was immediately interested in this project. It turned out to be an all-new experience for me. I am used to expressing my thoughts with my hands rather than getting someone else to bring them to life. However, I think this co-project has given me the opportunity to expand my field. Most craftspeople have a compulsion to create things themselves. Yet this was a great opportunity to express what was in my head using materials and techniques I cannot make myself. I had heard of tufting, but I didn’t know exactly how it was done. But during the making, I was surprised at how different forms of expression were possible, using different volume and texture.” In Yeonghye
“First and foremost, I wish to express my thankfulness to Doppia Firma for this fantastic and completely unexpected opportunity. Collaborating from such a distance was no easy feat. At times, communicating across two cultures and two different ways of thinking was challenging, but her visit to my studio was crucial for us to discuss and find the right way to develop our project. We examined and explored the materials together, I introduced her to my technique, and together we decided what the best solution would be to satisfy both her idea and my practice. Despite the language gap, we understood each other and, just like warp and weft, we weaved our threads and created our artwork!” Silvia Di Piazza
