The project stems from an understanding of the Archive of the Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte, as a living organism to be revived, rather than as an inventory of forms to refer to. The vase encapsulates all of the historical forms preserved in the factory’s archives—18th-century profiles, neoclassical curves, 19th-century swirls. Each form is dissected, distilled into its essential shape, and then arranged around a small central vase. From this generative nucleus, the forms develop one inside the other, like petals that close and protect themselves, culminating in a large external vase that encloses them all. The work presents itself as a bud—not an illustrative metaphor, but rather a structure. The forms of culture —layered over the centuries in the Capodimonte production—grow like the forms of nature. Each vase is both a matrix and a shell, memory and possibility. Its centre is not a fixed origin, but a grafting point, from which the historical forms branch off, overlapping and embracing each other, generating a unitary organism.
“This collaborative experience has certainly enriched our thinking even more than our knowledge itself, while also encouraging, through experimentation, the testing of some new technical possibilities.” (Andrea Anastasio)
“Anastasio’s design idea enhances our historical archive of forms, making everything entirely new and fascinating, while preserving a clear link with our past. We noticed a strong design intelligence seeking to make the most of our know-how by streamlining and optimising processes.” (Valter Luca De Bartolomeis)
