Double Signature. A dialogue between design and artisanal excellence

Makia

“Makia is the product of the encounter between creativity and high craftsmanship. It was given life through the technique of glass fusing, with glass powder applied using distilled water, thus transforming glass into a flowing and dynamic material. Like a watercolour stain, Makia captures the spontaneous movement of the molten glass, suspended between transparency and colour. A luminous ribbon runs through it, tracing a gentle, graphic line that magnifies the contrast between artistic gesture and artisanal rigour, and the perfect balance between the control of technique and the unpredictability of matter. When we visited the Vetroricerca studio in Bolzano, we were fascinated by their craftsmanship, the lightness they manage to impart to glass and the extraordinary variety of colours they can create—features that we wanted to highlight in the Doppia Firma project. The result is a suspended, unrepeatable sculpture: an item of collectible design that expresses our DNA in full.”
Draga & Aurel

“What struck us most was the way in which Draga & Aurel studio uses colour to achieve results that are not dissimilar to the transparent colouring of the thick glass with which we craft some of our sculptures. We were excited by the challenge to create a very thin, coloured glass with a gradient effect, almost as if it were a drawing. It wasn’t an easy task! Glass is a heavy material, and this is the main obstacle when it comes to creating a light and airy lamp like the one designed by Draga & Aurel.” Vetroricerca
