The originality of the gesture
The French theologian William of Auvergne wrote that the variety of the world contributes to its beauty. An assertion that is still perfectly valid, as anyone who appreciates the work of master craftsmen can confirm.
Deeply linked to their regions, and still active in a vast series of productive activities, master artisans represent the genius loci of our continent and interpret its most authentic spirit. In order to promote and protect their value, and to pass on this precious heritage to the future, the Michelangelo Foundation has undertaken a series of actions aimed at supporting the culture of fine craftsmanship, because to appreciate an object made with care and passion, and to know how to distinguish it from less noble products, it is necessary to develop curiosity, admiration and a critical spirit.
In this, Doppia Firma is certainly one of our most prestigious projects. Not only because it brings to the Salone del Mobile the fundamental collaboration between artisans and designers, but also because, thanks to our international network, it enhances the dialogue that is sparked when creativity crosses regional boundaries to feed into forward- thinking craftsmanship. Also presented at the prestigious Révélations salon in Paris, this edition of Doppia Firma also includes two Japanese masters for the first time.
The land of the rising sun, where the greatest artisans are named National Living Treasures, has been a great source of inspiration for us, and allowed us to develop meaningful collaboration – a meaning that we find in all these truly international duos. Because in this variety there is a value that never loses its beauty: the originality of the gesture.
